Thanks brt for ruining my productivity this morning. Anyway, in looking up the X-trail I discovered that they made a one off special edition for the Japanese market only called the X-trail GT.
nothing special right? Just a small, goofy looking crossover based on the Altima, except...
...It had a 2.0 liter turbo with variable valve timing and lift and 276 hp. Also included was 3 pedals and 5 speeds
3100 lbs, awd, 5 speed manual and 276 hp. That must have been one heck of a sleeper.
EDIT: I can’t confirm that the GT model was available with a manual, I think it might have been 4EAT only.

How did that only weigh 3100 lbs?! My Jetta weighs more than that!

My aunt still has hers. She also has a Patrol from the 90s.
Both manuals

I’m glad center mounted gauges are almost dead now.

Your first pic is the 2nd gen X-Trail, which didn’t have a GT version.
This is a 1st gen X-Trail GT with Nismo body kit, wheels & decals.

old cute utes used to weigh very little. This one probably weighs close to 3250 lbs all in.

My Altima based crossover is closer to ~4100 lbs....

My 2nd gen 4Runner has a fully boxed frame, cast iron block, 4WD, all steel body, came from the factory with 31” tires, and it only weighs 3800 lbs.

Not quite...

The GT was 4EAT only, couldn’t find one manual on Goo-Net.

I thought so, I think the manual was probably front drive only.

The car in the pic is a second gen, they weighed a bit more. On the first gen, the bumpers and front wings are plastic, so is most of the interior trim. The underbody is aluminum except for the frame rails and subframes which are steel and very prone to rust. Like seriously prone to rust. Dude I mean it, it’ll oxidise if someone spits on the sidewalk two blocks down (that may be an exaggeration).

Was that the infamous Japanese "276hp", where it was really much higher? Cool vehicle, not really familiar with the X-Trails.

I have 3 family member that have X-Trail. None are GT tho

One thing you need to learn about Japan is that every single car has a version with a turbo and 276hp.

There are a couple of Xtrails in my street. I keep thinking they’d look great on solid axles with a set of 35” tires.

It's a Renault Twingo. More specifically it's my Twingo haha.

Well you could get a manual with AWD, just not paired to the SR20VET.
